ON MULTI-LEVEL k-RANGES FOR RANGE SEARCH [PDF]

open access: possibleInternational Journal of Computational Geometry & Applications, 2005
We investigate an implementation of the multi-level or ℓ-level k-range data structure. The ℓ-level k-range is compared to naive and R*tree search over N randomly generated k-dimensional points. Results indicate that multi-level k-ranges are not competitive due to their (previously unreported) complexity.

Long-range echo ranging

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1972
A long-range acoustic side-scan echo-ranging technique has been employed to the east of the Bahama Islands-Blake Plateau area. Towing a hydrophone array at approximately 600 meters and regularly firing deep explosive charges as sound sources yielded ranges of ≤370 km. Ranges were limited by topographic relief and not by the ranging system.

Accuracy of Range-Range and Range-Sum Multilateration Systems

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1975
A recent paper [1] described a novel procedure for assessing the accuracy of hyperbolic multilateration systems for the case of uncorrelated ranging errors. Basically the procedure reduced the problem of assessing accuracy to that of calculating the moments and products of inertia of a simple mass constellation. This paper derives analogous results for

The "Normal" Range

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1970
To the Editor.— The attempt by Dr. Elveback and her colleagues to exorcise the ghost of Gauss ( 211 :69-75, 1970), calls for some comment. As they state, Gauss was primarily concerned with the theory of errors, but the components in an error distribution are analogous to those in any other type of measurement.

Range of emotion

Brain and Development, 1987
Physical therapists speak of the range of motion given to patients with physical handicaps. There is for families, a "range of emotion" that is part of having a handicapped child. My daughter fills me with both joy and pain, yet she is completely passive. She speaks only with her eyes, and I am learning to listen with mine.

THE RANGE OF AN ORTHOMORPHISM

Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, 2009
Let A be a uniformly complete vector lattice, let H be the collection of all order bounded linear mappings T : A → ℝ such that |T(x)| = |T(|x|)| for all x ∈ A and let σ(A, H) the weak topology on A. If (A, σ(A, H)) is a complete topological vector space then the range of any orthomorphism π: A → A is an order ideal of A.

On Range of Skill.

2008
At AAAI'07, Zinkevich, Bowling and Burch introduced the Range of Skill measure of a two-player game and used it as a parameter in the analysis of the running time of an algorithm for finding approximate solutions to such games. They suggested that the Range of Skill of a typical natural game is a small number, but only gave heuristic arguments for this.
