A novel decision support system for designing and assessing phytoremediation‐to‐biofuel value chains

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The design of biofuel value chains is a complex process due to the large number of stakeholders involved, seasonality in feedstock availability, security of supply, logistics costs, efficiency considerations, and its multi‐node nature. Decisions on designing phytoremediation‐to‐biofuel value chains are even more complicated, due to the ...

In Situ Electrochemically Deposited Mg Seeds Stabilizing the Lithium Metal Anode

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 12, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
In situ Mg seeds are generated on the lithium metal surface during cycling by incorporating MgCl2 into the electrolyte. These Mg seeds function as thiophilic sites, which lower the Li nucleation barrier and promote uniform Li nucleation and growth. Consequently, symmetric cells constructed with the carbonate electrolyte can cycle stably for over 400 h ...

Computational Evaluation of Redox Potentials of Metal Complexes for Aqueous Flow Batteries

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
Experimental and computational screening of redox potentials of several metal complexes is done. Computationally a large set of metal and ligand combinations has been studied. M = Fe,Ni,Ti,Mn, ligands include PIB, EDTA, cathecol, terpy, DIPSO. Most of the ligands are modified with functional groups. Flow batteries are a promising option for large‐scale

Onsager relation for electrokinetics at surfactant‐covered bubble film

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
We analytically studied the slip length and zeta potential of surfactant‐covered bubble films with the impact of pressure gradients and electric fields. The slip length and zeta potential of the liquid‐vapor interface significantly reduced caused by Marangoni effects.

Study on damage and failure characteristics of loaded gas‐bearing rock–coal–rock combination structures

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The influence of gas on the instability and failure of rock–coal–rock combinations is considered. The damage characteristics of gas‐bearing rock–coal–rock combinations under different confining pressures, axial loading rates, and gas are revealed. A constitutive model for gas‐bearing rock–coal–rock damage considering gas is established.

β‐Catenin localization in the ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi suggests an ancestral role in cell adhesion and nuclear function

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The emergence of multicellularity in animals marks a pivotal evolutionary event, which was likely enabled by molecular innovations in the way cells adhere and communicate with one another. β‐Catenin is significant to this transition due to its dual role as both a structural component in the cadherin–catenin complex and as a ...

Aligned Carbon Nanotube Polymer Nanocomposite Bipolar Plates Technology for Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A novel manufacturing technique enables the fabrication of HACN‐BP, an advanced aligned CNT nanocomposite. By transforming VA‐CNTs into a highly dense structure (59% CNT vol.), HACN‐BP achieves outstanding electrical conductivity in both in‐plane and thickness directions while minimizing electrolyte permeability. When integrated into VRFBs, it enhances

Numerical Simulations of the Lagrangian Averaged Navier-Stokes (Lans-α) Equations for Forced Homogeneous Isotropic Turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The modeling capabilities of the Lagrangian Averaged Navier-Stokes-α equations (LANS-α) is investigated in statistically stationary three-dimensional homogeneous and isotropic turbulence. The predictive abilities of the LANS-α equations are analyzed by
