Rthoptera: Standardised insect bioacoustics in R

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 1084-1094, June 2025.
Abstract Almost 100 years after the dawn of insect bioacoustics, freely available and robust analysis tools and protocols are still needed. We introduce Rthoptera, an open‐source R package designed for robust analysis of insect acoustic signals. It delivers accurate temporal and spectral measurements, along with intuitive visualisations, through a ...

Controlled comparative tensile tests of backed versus non‐backed edges’ adhesion: Inferences into stone tool functional properties

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 67, Issue 2, Page 267-283, April 2025.
Abstract Backing is a procedure for retouching a stone tool edge to an angle of or near 90°. Archaeologists have recorded backed lithic specimens in the Pleistocene and Holocene around the world. One prominent hypothesis for the occurrence of backing is that it increases a stone tool's adhesion relative to what it would have otherwise been with ...

Human hypoxia models in aerospace medicine: Potential applications for human pharmacological research

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aerospace medicine required controlled terrestrial models to investigate influences of altered atmosphere conditions, such as hypoxia, on human health and performance. These models could potentially be expanded to encompass disease conditions or treatment targets regulated through hypoxia or hypercapnia.
