Electrocardiogram of the reindeer, Rangifer tarandus tarandus
Laboratory Animals, 1979Summary Electrocardiograms were recorded for 50 Finnish reindeer of age 1 day to 9 years, using standard and unipolar extremity leads in the frontal plane. The range of heart rate was 40–250 beats per minute. Atrial and ventricular depolarization times were 5–10 ms shorter in newborn calves than in older reindeer, and showed only minor variance with ...

Trypanosoma cervi from Alaskan Reindeer, Rangifer tarandus
The Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 1982Twenty-nine (64.4%) or 45 reindeer, Rangifer tarandus, examined over a two-year period were infected with trypanosomes. Trypomastigotes and dividing epimastigotes were found in the blood of fawns, cows, and bulls. Morphometric analysis of bloodstream trypomastigotes from reindeer and comparison of these parasites with similar stages of trypanosomes ...

Reproductive management of reindeer (Rangifer tarandus)
American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference Proceedings, 2018North American reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) are seasonally polyestrus short-day breeders. Seasonal ovarian activity begins in late August with an estrous cycle length of 24 ± 3.4 days. Estrous synchronization protocols have been published and are similar to protocols in sheep and goats. Artificial insemination has been met with limited success

Computer simulation of Rangifer energetics
1976With increasing demands on and development of northern mineral resources, a basic understanding of the wildlife productivity is required for the careful management of any species. Barren-ground caribou, Rangifer tarandus (Richarson) , has been an integral part of these northern regions and the culture of the natives for centuries.
