Preliminary study on fully replacing bauxite with secondary aluminum ash in ceramsite proppants

open access: yesCase Studies in Chemical and Environmental Engineering
This study investigates using secondary aluminum ash, a solid waste, to fully replace bauxite as the main raw material, with kaolin as a binder to prepare ceramsite proppants.

The lower bounds for the rank of matrices and some sufficient conditions for nonsingular matrices

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2017
The paper mainly discusses the lower bounds for the rank of matrices and sufficient conditions for nonsingular matrices. We first present a new estimation for ∑ i = 1 n | λ i | 2 $\sum_{i=1}^{n} \vert \lambda_{i} \vert ^{2}$ ( λ i $\lambda_{i}$ is an ...

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

RRR: Rank-Regret Representative

open access: yes, 2018
Selecting the best items in a dataset is a common task in data exploration. However, the concept of "best" lies in the eyes of the beholder: different users may consider different attributes more important, and hence arrive at different rankings ...

Biophysical analysis of angiotensin II and amyloid‐β cross‐interaction in aggregation and membrane disruption

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Angiotensin II (AngII), a neuropeptide, interacts with amyloid‐β (Aβ), a key player in Alzheimer's disease. This study reveals that AngII reduces Aβ aggregation and membrane disruption in vitro. Biophysical assays and molecular modeling suggest AngII binds disordered Aβ forms, potentially modulating early amyloidogenic events and contributing to ...

Geometry of rank tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study partitions of the symmetric group which have desirable geometric properties. The statistical tests defined by such partitions involve counting all permutations in the equivalence classes. These permutations are the linear extensions of partially

Proportional Rankings [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2017
We extend the principle of proportional representation to rankings: given approval preferences, we aim to generate aggregate rankings so that cohesive groups of voters are represented proportionally in each initial segment of the ranking. Such rankings are desirable in situations where initial segments of different lengths may be relevant, e.g., in ...
