PERSONAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO ARMY RANK
American Journal of Psychiatry, 19461. A group of non-commissioned officers of rank technician fourth grade or higher hospitalized for psychiatric disorder, compared to a group of controls of similar rank, showed a greater frequency of family history of neurosis and neurotic manifestations prior to service, slightly less length of service, a lower educational level, and were rated less ...

A numerical tool for multiattribute ranking problems
Networks, 2003AbstractA large variety of techniques have been developed to solve or approximate the solution of multiattribute ranking problems. From such techniques, several implicit or explicit partial orders, defined on the same set of alternatives, are obtained (in many cases, by pairwise comparisons) with the goal of determining a linear order. Often, this goal

Finite rank acoustic scattering problems
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1982By comparing several known exact solutions of acoustic scattering problems, it is observed that the scattered fields show some joint features. The directivities which are functions of the direction of incidence and of the observation direction can be expressed in terms of one or two functions of one variable.

On Maximum Rank Aggregation Problems
2013The rank aggregation problem consists in finding a consensus ranking on a set of alternatives, based on the preferences of individual voters. These are expressed by permutations, whose distance can be measured in many ways.

The Minimal Rank Completion Problem
2013Here we study the problem of completion of a partially specified matrix with a given lower triangular part to a matrix with minimal rank. This chapter contains a formula for the rank of a minimal completion and an algorithm to build such a completion, first in the case of a 2 × 2 block matrix, which is then of help for the proof of the general case.

Moment Problems and Low Rank Toeplitz Approximations
Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing, 1982Recent signal processing research suggests that a theory of moments for finite Toeplitz matrices and forms would help in understanding and solving certain model approximation problems. Such a theory is developed in this paper and it is shown how these moment parameterizations can make approximating by low rank Toeplitz matrices tractable.

A CHARACTERISTIC C is observed in the r-th member (in order of birth) of a family of children of size s. The question arises whether C tends to be associated with earlier (or later) births rather than to be randomly distributed over all values of r from 1 to s. The problem was brought to my attention by Dr.
