Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A Jackknife Correction to a Test for Cointegration Rank

open access: yesEconometrics, 2015
This paper investigates the performance of a jackknife correction to a test for cointegration rank in a vector autoregressive system. The limiting distributions of the jackknife-corrected statistics are derived and the critical values of these ...

Local rank tests in a multivariate nonparametric relationship [PDF]

open access: yes
Consider a multivariate nonparametric model where the unknown vector of functions depends on two sets of explanatory variables. For a fixed level of one set of explanatory variables, we provide consistent statistical tests, called local rank tests, to ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Rank Based Tests for Testing the Constancy of the Regression Coefficients Against Random Walk Alternatives

open access: yesOperations Research and Decisions, 2011
A class of approximately locally most powerful type tests based on ranks of residuals is suggested for testing the hypothesis that the regression coefficient is constant in a standard regression model against the alternatives that a random walk process ...

The Brier score does not evaluate the clinical utility of diagnostic tests or prediction models

open access: yesDiagnostic and Prognostic Research, 2017
Background A variety of statistics have been proposed as tools to help investigators assess the value of diagnostic tests or prediction models. The Brier score has been recommended on the grounds that it is a proper scoring rule that is affected by both ...

Bootstrap Testing of the Rank of a Matrix via Least Squared Constrained Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In order to test if an unknown matrix has a given rank (null hypothesis), we consider the family of statistics that are minimum squared distances between an estimator and the manifold of fixed-rank matrix.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Efficient Calculation of Jackknife Confidence Intervals for Rank Statistics

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2005
An algorithm is presented for calculating concordance-discordance totals in a time of order N log N , where N is the number of observations, using a balanced binary search tree.

Differentially Private Nonparametric Hypothesis Testing

open access: yes, 2019
Hypothesis tests are a crucial statistical tool for data mining and are the workhorse of scientific research in many fields. Here we study differentially private tests of independence between a categorical and a continuous variable.
