Thermo-economic comparisons between solar steam Rankine and organic Rankine cycles
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016Abstract Among all concentrated solar power technologies, plants with parabolic trough collector and steam Rankine cycle are the most matured and established technology. Organic Rankine cycle is a promising option for modular scale power plants with low temperature heat sources.

The Rankine Topping Cycle Revisited
Journal of Ship Research, 1992Cascaded thermodynamic machines are familiar in marine engineering, even if the word "cascade" is not common currency in that field. The author refers to the almost universal practice of exhausting the working fluid (air) of a diesel engine into a gas turbine (the turbocharger, usually), followed by exhausting of that working fluid into a heat ...

Process integration of organic Rankine cycle
Energy, 2009An organic Rankine cycle (ORC) uses an organic fluid as a working medium within a Rankine cycle power plant. ORC offers advantages over conventional Rankine cycle with water as the working medium, as ORC generates shaft-work from low to medium temperature heat sources with higher thermodynamic efficiency.

Chap. 3 is dedicated to Rankine cycles with organic fluids: the so-called organic Rankine cycles (ORC), which in recent years have had a large success on the market. After a brief historical review we discuss the characteristics that must have the potential working fluids to be used in an ORC engine. A large discussion is about the interactions between

Optimization of Overcritical Organic Rankine Cycle
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016This paper explores the optimization cases for overcritical Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) in various situations. First the ORC optimization in terms of working fluid selection is discussed. In this case, thermal efficiencies for 10 different working fluids have been calculated under certain temperature frames and the results are compared.

Comparison of trilateral cycles and organic Rankine cycles
Energy, 2011A comparison of optimized trilateral cycle (TLC) - systems with water as working fluid and optimized organic Rankine cycle (ORC) – systems with pure organic working fluids is presented. The study includes the heat transfer to and from the cycles. The TLC - systems were optimized by the selection of the maximum water temperature, the ORC - systems by ...

Novel Rankine Cycle for Hybrid Vehicles
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2018<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The European Union (EU) has defined legally-binding targets for the fleet of new cars allowing 95 grams CO2 per kilometer in 2021. It is already under discussion to reduce average emissions of the EU car fleet by further 15% in 2025 and again by 30% in 2030

Technical options for Organic Rankine Cycle systems
2017The plant components and the plant configurations adopted in the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) field differ appreciably from the solutions used in large steam cycles because of the different nature of the working fluid and the type of heat source. ORCs are rarely fueled by fossil fuels, they usually work at relatively low temperatures, and they are ...
