Computation of the flow in a ventilated room using non-linear RANS, LES and hybrid RANS/LES

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2005
Summary: The isothermal flow in an empty ventilated room is computed. Performances of linear and nonlinear RANS, LES and a hybrid RANS/LES (LNS) models are compared. When compared to linear equivalents, the nonlinear RANS models are found to modestly improve predicted velocities and Reynolds stresses.

Hybrid RANS–LES Simulation of Wingtip Vortex Dynamics

Volume 1D, Symposia: Transport Phenomena in Mixing; Turbulent Flows; Urban Fluid Mechanics; Fluid Dynamic Behavior of Complex Particles; Analysis of Elementary Processes in Dispersed Multiphase Flows; Multiphase Flow With Heat/Mass Transfer in Process Technology; Fluid Mechanics of Aircraft and Rocket Emissions and Their Environmental Impacts; High Performance CFD Computation; Performance of Multiphase Flow Systems; Wind Energy; Uncertainty Quantification in Flow Measurements and Simulations, 2014
This paper presents a feasibility study of a hybrid RANS–LES approach to numerical simulation of aircraft wing-tip vortices. A NACA 0012 wing is considered for which earlier published experimental and numerical data are available. Mesh sensitivity tests of our RANS solver and comparisons between two different turbulence models indicate that the RANS ...

Hybrid RANS-LES Models

2013
A fully coupled zonal Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) - large-eddy simulation (LES) method and a hybrid Detached- Eddy Simmulation (DES) method are presented and results for a subsonic flow over the HGR-01 airfoil at high angle of attack are discussed for both methods.

Hybrid RANS-LES for Turbomachinery

Volume 2C: Turbomachinery, 2018
A range of popular hybrid Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes - large eddy simulation (RANS-LES) methods are tested for cavity and labyrinth seal flows using an in-house high-order computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code and a commercial CFD code. The models include the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) and Menter SST variants of delayed detached eddy simulation (DDES)
