Reynolds Stress Closure in Hybrid RANS-LES Methods

2015
The feasibility of using the elliptic blending Reynolds stress model (EB-RSM) in hybrid RANS-LES methods is investigated in this paper. The advantage of the EB-RSM is that it does not use any geometrical wall distance or wall normal vector information which makes it well suited for application in flows with complex wall geometries.

RANS and Hybrid LES/RANS Simulation of the Effects of Micro Vortex Generators Using Immersed Boundary Methods

38th Fluid Dynamics Conference and Exhibit, 2008
This work presents an immersed boundary (IB) technique for compressible, turbulent flows and applies the technique to simulate the effects of micro vortex generators (micro VGs) in controlling oblique-shock / turbulent boundary layer interactions. Both Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and hybrid large-eddy / Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (LES ...

Synthetic Turbulence Generation for a Zonal RANS-LES Method

2012
A synthetic turbulence generation (STG) method for flows at low and high Reynolds and Mach numbers to provide LES inflow boundary conditions of zonal Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS)- large-eddy simulation (LES) method simulations is presented. The present method separates the LES inflow plane into three sections where a local velocity signal is ...

Effect of RANS Method on Stall Inception Eigenvalue Approach

Volume 2B: Turbomachinery, 2017
The effect of mesh, turbulence model and discretization scheme in Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes method (RANS) on a stall inception eigenvalue approach is investigated in a transonic compressor rotor. The most influencing flow structures on the result of eigenvalue approach are also identified.

Hybrid RANS-LES Methods Applied to Acoustic Problems

2015
In this paper, two acoustic problems of importance to the engineering community are solved using hybrid RANS-LES methods. More specifically, results from the problems of supersonic flow over a surface mounted protuberance and that of a supersonic jet impingement on a flat plat are presented.
