Rape-Prone Versus Rape-Free Campus Cultures
Violence Against Women, 1996Using the concepts of rape-free and rape-prone societies, I suggest that the next step for rape research is to investigate rape-free campus environments. Based on the articles in this volume and ethnographic research, I summarize what is known about rape-prone campus cultures and compare this information with rape-free fraternity cultures.

Rape of enslaved persons, a daily reality, was a crime only if committed by someone other than their owner. Rape of citizen males damaged their reputations; rape of citizen females could render them ineligible for marriage.

The offence was extended in 1992 so that a husband could be convicted of raping his wife. In 1994 the definition of rape was extended to include non-consensual anal intercourse upon a male or female.
