Can Terrain Induce Moist Absolutely Unstable Layers and Enhance Extreme Rainfall?

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Extreme rainfall events in Taiwan pose significant forecasting challenges due to complex multiscale interactions. Although orographic lifting is known to trigger convection, its role in modifying atmospheric stability, specifically through the formation of moist absolutely unstable layers (MAULs), remains underexplored. This study presents the

Metabolic Regulation of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate Cleavage and Dimethyl Sulfide Production in Halomonas sp. D47

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a major marine organosulfur compound central to climate‐relevant dimethyl sulfide (DMS) production. In Halomonas sp. D47, DMSP catabolism is revealed to be coordinated by two transcriptional regulators, AcuR and AcuZ, which control gene expression by sensing DMSP and its metabolites.

A Review of Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Disease: Comprehensive Theory and Evidence for Mechanisms of Action

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) effects span central and peripheral organ systems through diverse mechanistic pathways. This comprehensive review provides a unified synthesis of these mechanisms across neurological, cardiovascular, immunological, metabolic, and gastrointestinal domains, filling a critical gap and serving as a foundational resource for ...

Whole genome analysis of a schistosomiasis-transmitting freshwater snail

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Biomphalaria glabrata is a fresh water snail that acts as a host for trematode Schistosoma mansoni that causes intestinal infection in human. This work describes the genome and transcriptome analyses from 12 different tissues of B glabrata, and identify ...

Viral communities of Shark Bay modern stromatolites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
© 2018 White, Wong, Ruvindy, Neilan and Burns. Single stranded DNA viruses have been previously shown to populate the oceans on a global scale, and are endemic in microbialites of both marine and freshwater systems. We undertook for the first time direct

New Insights Into the Biogeography of Six Garra Species (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) in the Persian Gulf Basin

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We present data and inferences supporting the case for post‐LGM secondary contact between eastern and western G. rufa populations that became isolated by post‐Pleistocene sea level rise of the Persian Gulf. We suggest river capture as a probable mechanism explaining secondary dispersal of Garra rufa populations from eastern to western river drainages ...

Imported Retail Beef and Chicken Meat Products Serve as Reservoirs for Emerging Antibiotic‐Resistant Pathotypes of Escherichia coli in Pristine Areas Free From Agricultural Activity

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
Retail meat–derived E. coli frequently harbored multidrug‑resistance phenotypes, diverse virulence determinants, and plasmid‑encoded resistance genes with high conjugative potential. Results indicate meat and poultry as underrecognized reservoirs facilitating dissemination of antimicrobial resistance and pathogenic lineages, with imported products ...
