The ratchet effect in an ageing glass [PDF]
We study the dynamics of an asymmetric intruder in a glass-former model. At equilibrium, the intruder diffuses with average zero velocity. After an abrupt quench to $T$ deeply under the mode-coupling temperature, a net average drift is observed, steady on a logarithmic time-scale.

Magnetic field effects and transverse ratchets in charge lattices coupled to asymmetric substrates
We examine a charge lattice coupled to a one-dimensional asymmetric potential in the presence of an applied magnetic field, which induces gyrotropic effects in the charge motion. This system could be realized for Wigner crystals in nanostructured samples,

The dynamics of corruption with the ratchet effect [PDF]
This paper provides a simple model of corruption dynamics with the ratchet effect. As in Shleifer and Vishny [1993], we consider the sale of government property (entry permit) by government officials as the prototype of corruption activities. In a dynamic version of the Shleifer-Vishny model, corrupt officials have ex post the incentive to price ...

The ratchet effect in social dilemmas [PDF]
Abstract In this paper, we investigate whether dynamic incentive schemes lead to a ratchet effect in a social dilemma. We test whether subjects strategically restrict their contribution levels at the beginning of a cumulative public goods game in order to avoid high obligations in the future and how this affects efficiency.

Skyrmion ratchet propagation: utilizing the skyrmion Hall effect in AC racetrack storage devices
Magnetic skyrmions are whirl-like nano-objects with topological protection. When driven by direct currents, skyrmions move but experience a transverse deflection.

Ratchet effect in brownian photomotors: symmetry constraints and going beyond them
The symmetry conditions have been derived for the occurrence of the ratchet effect in Brownian photomotors. To this end, spatiotemporal symmetry operations in vector transformations, coordinate and time shifts, and in the overdamped regime were applied ...

Giant ratchet magneto-photocurrent in graphene lateral superlattices
We report on the observation of the magnetic quantum ratchet effect in graphene with a lateral dual-grating top gate (DGG) superlattice. We show that the THz ratchet current exhibits sign-alternating magneto-oscillations due to the Shubnikov–de Haas ...

Thermal ratchet effects in ferrofluids [PDF]
Rotational Brownian motion of colloidal magnetic particles in ferrofluids under the influence of an oscillating external magnetic field is investigated. It is shown that for a suitable time dependence of the magnetic field, a noise induced rotation of the ferromagnetic particles due to rectification of thermal fluctuations takes place.
