The first case of Reel Syndrome in a dog after pacemaker implantation: A case report

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Reel Syndrome is a rare complication of permanent pacemaker implantation, characterised by the rotation of the device around its transverse axis, which causes the lead to coil around the generator and displacement, leading to pacing dysfunction. This report presents the first documented case of Reel Syndrome in a dog.

Study on path independency on shape of plastic strain distribution accumulated due to long distance travel of temperature distribution

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
The prevention of excessive deformation by thermal ratcheting is important in the elevated temperature design of fast breeder reactors (FBR). In an experimental study that simulated a fast breeder reactor vessel near the coolant surface, it was reported ...

Digital Transformation of Retail Work: The Rise of Chaotic Rationalisation

open access: yesBritish Journal of Industrial Relations, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We examine how new digital technologies are transforming labour processes in frontline jobs in United States (US) store‐based retail, examining the US as an extreme case of labour market liberalisation. Research on technological change presents three scenarios: job displacement, job enrichment and ‘digital Taylorism’ involving heightened ...

Parasports for cerebral palsy: Thinking and ‘prescribing’ beyond the Paralympics

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on parasport participation for individuals with cerebral palsy, highlighting key benefits, and providing sport‐specific adaptations that enhance accessibility of parasport. Abstract The landscape of care for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) has evolved far beyond ‘fixing’ impairments toward a life ...

Beyond Exceptional and Ordinary: Analysing the Effects of Emergency Frames on EU Renewable Energy Policy‐Making

open access: yesJCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aims to provide a better understanding of how policy‐making changes when an issue is framed as an emergency. Literature on emergency politics provides different views on policy‐making changes resulting from emergency frames, where ordinary and exceptional policy‐making overlap in different ways.

MagicPairing: Apple's Take on Securing Bluetooth Peripherals

open access: yes, 2020
Device pairing in large Internet of Things (IoT) deployments is a challenge for device manufacturers and users. Bluetooth offers a comparably smooth trust on first use pairing experience. Bluetooth, though, is well-known for security flaws in the pairing

Some Recent Developments in the Endochronic Theory with Application to Cyclic Histories [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Constitutive equations with only two easily determined material constants predict the stress (strain) response of normalized mild steel to a variety of general strain (stress) histories, without a need for special unloading-reloading rules. The equations

Marginal gap of printed, milled, and heat‐pressed two‐piece polyetheretherketone abutments before and after thermal cycling, and their pull‐off bond strength after thermal cycling

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate the marginal gap of two‐piece polyetheretherketone (PEEK) abutments fabricated with different methods, before and after thermal cycling, while also focusing on their pull‐off bond strength. Materials and Methods A two‐piece abutment was virtually designed after digitizing a titanium‐base (Ti‐base) abutment.

Dominance of extreme statistics in a prototype many-body Brownian ratchet

open access: yes, 2014
Many forms of cell motility rely on Brownian ratchet mechanisms that involve multiple stochastic processes. We present a computational and theoretical study of the nonequilibrium statistical dynamics of such a many-body ratchet, in the specific form of a
