Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Discriminative Power of Rating Functions

open access: yesBanks and Bank Systems, 2007
We discuss different measures of the discriminative power of rating functions to examine the forecast strength of ratings. Besides the measures discussed in the literature, we also consider stochastic dominance to evaluate rating functions. We apply these criteria to compare empirically the ratings of Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investors Service ...

Adaptive minimum error-rate filtering design: a review

open access: yes, 2008
Adaptive filtering has been an enabling technology and has found ever-increasing applications in various state-of-the-art communication systems. Traditionally, adaptive filtering has been developed based on the Wiener or minimum mean square error (MMSE ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Functional Ratings in Sports

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, we present a new model for ranking sports teams. Our model uses all scoring data from all games to produce a functional rating by the method of least squares. The functional rating can be interpreted as a teams average point differential adjusted for strength of schedule.

The Interest Rate-Exchange Rate Link in the Mexican Float [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines empirically the interest rate-exchange rate link in the context of the Mexican experience with a floating exchange regime. The impulse response function derived from an ECM estimated by GMM reveals a lasting positive effect of a ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Market Conduct, Price Interdependence and Exchange Rate Pass-Through [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper develops an international oligopoly model where foreign and domestic firms simultaneously choose their pricing strategies under the assumption of non-zero conjectural variations.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
