Wideband Oscillation Mechanism Analysis in VSC-HVDC Systems With Virtual Synchronous Machine in Master-Slave Mode

open access: yesIEEE Access
Virtual synchronous machine (VSM) has been applied in voltage source converter high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) system. This paper proposes a stability evaluation model for ‘rate of change of frequency-transient frequency excursion’ ...

Frequency Support of Smart Grid Using Fuzzy Logic-Based Controller for Wind Energy Systems

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
This paper proposes a fuzzy logic-based controller for a wind turbine system to provide frequency support for a smart grid. The designed controller is aimed to provide an appropriate dynamic droop rate depending on the local measurements of each wind ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Analyses of Extreme Flood in the Holocene to Improve Flood Frequency Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Electronic Thesis or DissertationExtreme floods observations are underrepresented in short stream gauge records. Consequently, instrumented records are limited in providing meaningful insight into their mechanistic drivers and frequency.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Estimation of the distribution of change-points with appliction to fMRI data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Change-point detection in sequences of functional data is examined where the functional observations are dependent and where the distributions of change- points from multiple subjects is required.

Autonomous Load Control for Frequency Regulation in Low-Inertia Systems: An Experimental Demonstration

open access: yesIEEE Access
The increasing use of inverter-based resources in modern power systems has significantly reduced synchronous inertia, making frequency regulation more challenging.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
