Hardware Test and Validation of the Angular Droop Control: Analysis and Experiments

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This work presents the first hardware‐based implementation of angular droop control for grid‐forming converters. By linking active power to angle deviation, the control strategy enables exact frequency regulation and merges primary with secondary control.

Novel Dynamic Inertia Damping Enhancement of Droop Control for Grid‐Forming Converters

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper introduces a novel dynamic inertia damping enhancement specifically designed to improve droop control for grid‐forming converters. Significant focus is placed on the development of a mathematical model that dynamically adjusts inertia based on frequency variations and active power.

Inrush Current Suppression and Coordinated Control Strategy for Grid Black Start Using a Grid‐Forming Wind‐Storage System

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
To address the inrush current and switching impact from transformer no‐load closing during grid black start with grid‐forming wind turbines, this paper proposes a Virtual flux envelope smoothing (VFES) strategy and a multi‐mode coordinated black start control method for grid‐forming wind‐storage systems based on actual engineering parameters.

Adaptive Frequency Estimation Method for ROCOF Islanding Detection Relay

open access: yes, 2020
Rate-of-change-of-frequency (ROCOF) is one of the most popular local islanding detection methods due to its simplicity and low cost. However, the method suffers from significant non-detection zone (NDZ) and experiences security issues due to non ...

Optimal Load Shedding Scheme Considering the Dynamic Frequency Response

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
A power system is never in a steady state due to continuous load variations, disturbances, maneuvers, and the operation of protection systems. A generation deficit causes a frequency drop in the system that must be controlled. If this frequency deviation

Comparison of Different Virtual Inertia Control Methods for Inverter-based Generators

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2020
With the rapid development of inverter-based generators (IGs), power grid is faced with critical frequency stability challenges because the existing IGs have no inertia.
