Debt enforcement and the return on money [PDF]

open access: yes
The rate-of-return-dominance puzzle asks why low-return assets, like fiat money, are used in actual economies given that risk-free higher-return assets are available.

Deterministic Detection of Single Ion Implantation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam implantation with high detection efficiencies will enable the rapid and scalable fabrication of advanced spin‐based technologies such as qubits. This work presents the detection efficiencies of a wide range of ions implanted into solid‐state hosts, with efficiencies of >90% recorded for ion species and substrate combinations of ...

Why Do Migrants Return to Poor Countries? Evidence from Philippine Migrants’ Responses to Exchange Rate Shocks [PDF]

open access: yes
Why would migrant workers in rich countries ever return to poorer countries of origin? In a model of migration and household investment, with borrowing constraints and minimum investment thresholds, return migration occurs for either target-earnings or ...

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Estimating Returns to Education: Three Natural Experiment Techniques Compared [PDF]

open access: yes
We compare three quasi-experimental approaches to estimating the returns to schooling in Australia: instrumenting schooling using month of birth, instrumenting schooling using changes in compulsory schooling laws, and comparing outcomes for twins.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Role of banks in housing finance [PDF]

open access: yes
It is implied that the Housing Finance companies and banking sector can find an equilibrium rate of return on deposits by simultaneous determination of the utilization of housing loans and supply of the funds. The results are also useful in determination

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Decay of correlations on towers with non-Holder continuous Jacobian and non-exponential return time

open access: yes, 2004
We establish upper bounds on the rate of decay of correlations of tower systems with summable variation of the Jacobian and integrable return time.

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...
