Rate Region of the Vector Gaussian CEO Problem With the Trace Distortion Constraint [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2014
We establish a new extremal inequality, which is further leveraged to give a complete characterization of the rate region of the vector Gaussian CEO problem with the trace distortion constraint.

Rates of Return to Degrees across British Regions [PDF]

open access: yesRegional Studies, 2006
Earlier papers have found considerable heterogeneity in the returns to degrees in relation to subjects of study, degree classification and higher education institution. In this paper we examine heterogeneity of returns across British regions using the Labour Force Survey.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Determinants of property rate default: evidence from the Ashanti Region, Ghana

open access: yesCommonwealth Journal of Local Governance, 2015
This study seeks to assess the determinants of property rates default in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to study 540 respondents from one municipal and five district assemblies within the region.

Exchange Rate and Regional Divergences: The Swiss Case [PDF]

open access: yesRegional Studies, 2002
From 1975 to 1995, the Swiss franc appreciated in a near constant manner compared with the currencies of all of the country's commercial partners. This paper will seek to demonstrate that the various regions in Switzerland evolve differently when faced with a continuously appreciating currency. The paper is not in the nature of an econometric study and

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Effect of cooling rate in the mid-temperature region on fatigue crack propagation rate of bainitic steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Controlling continuous cooling is an important means to control the most important mechanical properties of bainitic steel for frogs in railroad applications. In this paper, a bainitic steel for railway frogs is taken as the research object. By designing

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Faster R-CNN: Towards Real-Time Object Detection with Region Proposal Networks [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2015
State-of-the-art object detection networks depend on region proposal algorithms to hypothesize object locations. Advances like SPPnet and Fast R-CNN have reduced the running time of these detection networks, exposing region proposal computation as a ...

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...
