Asymptotic Rate versus Design Rate
2007 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2007The rate of a code is one of its most important parameters. We consider sparse graph codes and ask whether the rate of a random element of an ensemble is typically close to the design rate of the ensemble. For regular LDPC ensembles this question was answered in the affirmative in (Miller and Cohen, 2003).

The main analytical elements of Knut Wicksell’s Interest and Prices can be found in the works of earlier writers. Wicksell was familiar with Ricardo’s distinction between the direct and indirect transmission of monetary impulses. Although unknown to Wicksell in 1898, Henry Thornton had provided a clear account of the cumulative process in 1802, as had ...

FOR what purpose do the banks use their powers to influence the interest rates? In reality policy is imposed upon them by monetary authorities, but we are conducting the argument on the assumption that they are operating according to certain rules without specifying the manner in which they are compelled to do so ...

Rating the Rating Agencies [PDF]
In this study, we begin by assessing the ability of sovereign credit ratings to anticipate crises. In addition, given the wave of sovereign credit ratings downgrades that have followed the crises in Asia, we investigate formally the extent to which credit ratings are reactive.

Rating the ratings: Assessing the psychometric quality of rating data.
Psychological Bulletin, 1980Reviews research that is concerned with evaluating the psychometric qualities of data in the form of ratings (rating errors) and that has been plagued with conceptual and operational confusion and inconsistency. Following a brief historical survey, inconsistencies in definitions, quantifications, and methodologies are documented in a review of more ...

The Effects of Specific Respiratory Rates on Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability
Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, 2003In this study respiratory rates of 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 breaths per minute were employed to investigate the effects of these rates on heart rate variability (HRV). Data were collected 16 times at each respiratory rate on 3 female volunteers, and 12 times on 2 female volunteers.

Spot Rates, Forward Rates, and the Interest-Rate Differentials: Comment
Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, 1973In a recent article, John Pippenger developed a theory of interest rate arbitrage within a simple Fisherian framework.1 Among the implications he derived from this approach to international finance was the contention that, "If the interest rate arbitrage theory is developed in a Fisherian context, then the major determinant of both the forward premium ...

The sedimentation rate measures the rate of fall of erythrocytes in the plasma. The rate is accelerated when alterations in plasma protein fractions cause rouleau formation or aggregation of red blood cells due to change in physicochemical properties of plasma and erythrocyte surfaces.

The rate of growth of wage rate as a function of unemployment rate
Cybernetics and Systems Analysis, 2011The rate of growth of wage rate is proportional to inflation and is an increasing function of unemployment rate. The unemployment rate growth increases inflation. The retention of a high inflation rate from year to year with a high unemployment rate leads to stagflation caused by a redundant amount of money in annual circulation and to the wage growth ...
