The influence of user personality and rating scale features on rating behaviour: an empirical study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
User ratings are widely used in web systems and applications to provide personalized interaction and to help other users make better choices. Previous research has shown that rating scale features and user personality can both influence users' rating behaviour, but relatively little work has been devoted to understanding if the effects of rating scale ...

Complexity and scaling in quantum quench in $1+1$ dimensional fermionic field theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the scaling behavior of circuit complexity under quantum quench in an a relativistic fermion field theory on a one dimensional spatial lattice. This is done by finding an exactly solvable quench protocol which asymptotes to massive phases at early and late times and crosses a critical point in between.

Elucidation of interface interactions between a dehydratase domain and an acyl carrier protein in cremimycin polyketide synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In modular polyketide synthases, the dehydratase (DH) domain catalyzes the dehydration reaction of the β‐hydroxyacyl unit attached to the cognate acyl carrier protein (ACP) domain. However, it is unclear how DH interacts with ACP during the reaction. In this study, we identified DH–ACP interface residues, providing the first detailed insights into DH ...

Clustered Monotone Transforms for Rating Factorization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Exploiting low-rank structure of the user-item rating matrix has been the crux of many recommendation engines. However, existing recommendation engines force raters with heterogeneous behavior profiles to map their intrinsic rating scales to a common rating scale (e.g. 1-5).

On geometric and analytic mixing scales: comparability and convergence rates for transport problems [PDF]

open access: yesPure Appl. Analysis 1 (2019) 543-570, 2018
In this article we are interested in the geometric and analytic mixing scales of solutions to passive scalar problems. Here, we show that both notions are comparable after possibly removing large scale projections. In order to discuss our techniques in a transparent way, we further introduce a dyadic model problem.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six
