The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) can challenge both power system planners and operators to maintain system reliability. Potential power system stability issues may arise when a large amount of RESs are connected to a weak ...

An Evaluation of Ratio Systems in Radioecological Studies
Health Physics, 1996Replicate samples of soil, Juncus squarrosus and Calluna vulgaris were taken within a grid system on an organic peatland soil site in Ireland. A similar sampling survey was carried out on an organic rich forest soil site in Sweden, where Vaccinium myrtillus and Vaccinium vitis-idaea with corresponding soil samples were taken within a Picea abies stand.

Signal-to-noise ratio gain in neuronal systems
Physical Review E, 2001We explore the possibility of a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain both in a single neuron and a neuronal network. In the presence of a weak sinusoidal or pulse signal and Gaussian noise, the output SNR can exceed the input SNR over a wide range of noise intensities. The high output SNR and SNR gain can be acquired coincidentally at optimal noise levels.

EFFECTIVENESS RETENTION RATIO AND MULTISTATE SYSTEMS
2021This paper analyzes approaches to dependability assessment of multistate systems in which partial failures can occur. It is shown that for many multistate systems it is advisable to use the effectiveness retention ratio as a dependability measure. The paper explains the meaning and advantages of this measure, and presents methods for its calculation ...

Lymph-nodal ratio in gastric cancer staging system.
Minerva chirurgica, 2011Many studies have indicated that lymph node metastases and the depth of invasion of the primary tumor are the most reliable prognostic factors for patients with radically resected gastric cancer. Recently the ratio between metastatic and examined lymph nodes (n ratio) has been proposed as a new prognostic indicator.

Wilson ratio in nearly ferromagnetic systems
Physical Review B, 1997We study the behavior of the ratio between the uniform susceptibility and the thermal mass in a nearly ferromagnetic system using general results of quantum phase transitions. We consider cases where the ferromagnetic quantum critical point is approached along different paths. The relation with microscopic approaches is also investigated.
