Effects of Amphetamine on Striatal Dopamine Release, Open-Field Activity, and Play in Fischer 344 and Sprague–Dawley Rats

open access: yes, 2015
Previous work from our laboratories has shown that juvenile Fischer 344 (F344) rats are less playful than other strains and also appear to be compromised in dopamine (DA) functioning.

Evidence of emerging transcriptome mediators of Alzheimer's disease in canine cognitive dysfunction

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 3, May 2026.
Canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD) may be a promising model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To assess AD‐related molecular signatures in CCD, we generated transcriptome data on dog cortex and plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs). CCD‐related transcriptome changes were similar to those in aging/AD humans and were detectable in EVs from the same animals ...

Beyond the Black Box: Reproductive Strategies of the Black Soldier Fly as a Model for Bridging Evolutionary Biology and Applied Entomology

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The black soldier fly (BSF; Hermetia illucens) is rapidly emerging as a model for evolutionary biology and insect biotechnology. Although larval biology has been extensively characterised, the reproductive biology of adults remains comparatively understudied.

Gamma‐irradiated Newcastle disease virus: an alternative inactivated oncolytic virotherapy

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page 473-484, May‐June 2026.
To overcome biological risks associated with using live NDV as an oncolytic therapy, we developed gamma‐NDV as a safer alternative. Using a murine model for skin cancer, we show that intratumor administration of gamma‐NDV outperformed live‐NDV in terms of reducing tumor growth and improving overall animal survival. Abstract Newcastle disease virus (NDV)

Arabidopsis acclimation to daily environmental fluctuations converts a defense response regulator into a susceptibility factor toward Sclerotinia

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2516-2534, May 2026.
Summary Acclimation enables plants to adjust to immediate environmental fluctuations and is therefore key to the resilience of plant disease resistance in a time of climate change. Here, we report on the acclimation of Arabidopsis thaliana quantitative immune responses against the fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum to daily environmental ...

Assignment of the Human and Mouse Prion Protein Genes to Homologous Chromosomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Purified preparations of scrapie prions contain one major macromolecule, designated prion protein (PrP). Genes encoding PrP are found in normal animals and humans but not within the infectious particles.
