Characterization of model errors in the calculation of tangent heights for atmospheric infrared limb measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2014
We review the main factors driving the calculation of the tangent height of spaceborne limb measurements: the ray-tracing method, the refractive index model and the assumed atmosphere.

Cloud base height and cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2011
Cosmic rays modify current flow in the global atmospheric electrical circuit. Charging at horizontal layer cloud edges has been observed to be consistent with global circuit vertical current flow through the cloud, which can modify the properties of small and pure water droplets.

Genetic analysis and mapping of dwarf gene without yield penalty in a γ-ray-induced wheat mutant

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
Plant height is one of the most important agronomic traits that affects yield in wheat, owing to that the utilization of dwarf or semi-dwarf genes is closely associated with lodging resistance.

Variation of Cosmic Ray Intensity with Height in the Atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1936
THE well-known curves of cosmic ray intensity obtained by Kolhorster, Regener and others show no trace of discontinuity, for they are mean values for intervals of many hundreds or even thousands of metres.

Analysis and Mitigation of Pulse-Pile-Up Artifacts in Plasma Pulse-Height X-ray Spectra

open access: yesPlasma, 2023
Pulse pile-up in pulse-height energy analyzers increases when the incident rate of pulses increases relative to the inverse of the dead time per pulse of the detection system.

Retrieving cloud top height in the JEM-EUSO cosmic-ray observation system

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
The main telescope of JEM-EUSO will determine Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray properties by measuring the UV fluorescence light generated in the interaction between the cosmic rays and the atmosphere.

Investigation of X-ray radiation response to electrical properties of Mo/Cu(In0.7Ga0.3)Te2/p-Si/Al semiconductor diode

open access: yesJournal of New Results in Science, 2023
Diodes are exposed to radiation in many operating environments, and it is important to investigate the radiation effect. In this study, the impact of X-ray radiation on the electrical properties of Mo/Cu(In0.7Ga0.3)Te2/p-Si/Al semiconductor diode was ...

Towards a wavefront-preservation X-ray crystal monochromator for high-repetition-rate FELs

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2023
The wavefront preservation of coherent X-ray free-electron laser beams is pushing the requirement on the quality and performance of X-ray optics to an unprecedented level. The Strehl ratio can be used to quantify this requirement.
