Substrate degradation in high-Rayleigh-number reactive convection [PDF]
We study buoyancy-induced convection of a solute in an ideal two-dimensional fluid-saturated porous medium, where the solute undergoes a second-order reaction with a chemical substrate that is fixed in the underlying matrix. Numerical simulations at high Rayleigh number show how a flow is established in which a thin dynamic boundary layer beneath the ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Spectral analysis of boundary layers in Rayleigh-Benard convection
A combined experimental and numerical study of the boundary layer in a 4:1 aspect-ratio Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard cell over a four-decade range of Rayleigh numbers has been undertaken aimed at gaining a better insight into the character of the boundary layers.

Observation of Topological Chirality Switching Induced Freezing of a Skyrmion Crystal
Using Lorentz Transmission electron microscopy, it is shown that in the insulating van der Waals ferromagnet, CrBr3, a magnetic field can cause Bloch skyrmionic bubbles to spontaneously switch their chirality. As achiral type‐II bubbles are an intermediate state, the bubbles rapidly elongate and shrink when switching, thereby inducing a freezing of the

Rayleigh fractionation in high-Rayleigh-number solutal convection in porous media
We study the fractionation of two components between a well-mixed gas and a saturated convecting porous layer. Motivated by geological carbon dioxide (CO$_2$) storage we assume that convection is driven only by the dissolved concentration of the first component, while the second acts as a tracer with increased diffusivity.
