Wave gradiometry for USArray: Rayleigh waves

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2009
Wave gradiometry (WG) is a new array data processing technique to extract phase velocity, wave directionality, geometrical spreading, and radiation pattern from spatial gradients of waveforms. A weighted inversion method and a reducing velocity method are introduced to compute spatial gradients accurately for irregular arrays. Numerical experiments are

Nonlinear magnetoelastic Rayleigh waves

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1994
Abstract The propagation of nonlinear magnetoelastic waves in a semi-infinite ferromagnetic single crystal has been investigated. We consider the nonlinearity of magnetic origin and find the dispersion relation of coupled nonlinear magnetostatic and elastic Rayleigh waves. We present the results of a theoretical study of dispersion and attenuation of

Rayleigh Wave Tomography

1991
Tomographic imaging involves the collection of data from a series of projections through an object, and the reconstruction of variations in a chosen parameter across a two-dimensional section. It is now an established method for the reconstruction of images from ultrasonic data, and has been used widely in such areas as medical ultrasound and non ...

Surface Acoustic Wave Focusing and Induced Rayleigh Waves

Physical Review Letters, 1995
We introduce a new method for observing the anisotropic propagation of surface acoustic waves on solids. Point source and point detection of ultrasonic waves, scanned as a function of propagation angle, give the group velocities and intensities of Rayleigh and pseudosurface waves.

Leaky Rayleigh waves

Journal of Applied Physics, 1993
In an elastically isotropic semiinfinite medium having a free surface with a weak harmonic corrugation, the interaction between the Rayleigh wave guided along the free surface and the shear vertical and pressure bulk elastic waves propagating in the substrate is investigated for the propagation directions lying in a plane perpendicular to the average ...

Pulsed nonlinear Rayleigh waves

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994
Pulsed, plane, nonlinear Rayleigh waves in isotropic solids are investigated with numerical solutions of the coupled spectral equations derived by Zabolotskaya [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 91, 2569 (1992)]. Calculations of waveform evolution are presented as functions of distance from the source and depth within the solid.
