Clustering of Exogenous Organic Material Properties to Improve Their Efficient Recycling in European Agriculture

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 77, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
ABSTRACT Exogenous organic materials (EOMs) are increasingly used as substitutes for mineral fertilizers and as tools to restore soil health within a circular bioeconomy context. However, the great diversity of EOMs in terms of origin, composition, chemical properties, and contaminant concentrations challenges their safe and efficient use in ...

Conserved spatial patterning of gene expression in independent lineages of C4 plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 24-38, January 2026.
Summary C4 photosynthesis enhances carbon fixation efficiency by reducing photorespiration through the use of an oxygen‐insensitive carboxylase and spatial separation of photosynthesis between mesophyll and bundle sheath cells. The C4 pathway has evolved independently in > 60 plant lineages, but molecular mechanisms underpinning this convergence remain

Synthesis, Crystal Structure, Hirshfeld Surface Analysis, and DFT Calculations of Cesium Benzilate Monohydrate: Exploring the Importance of Noncovalent Interactions

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The novel complex cesium benzilate monohydrate, Cs[C14H11O3]·H2O, was synthesized via the reaction of benzilic acid and cesium carbonate, and high‐purity single crystals were obtained by slow aqueous solvent evaporation. Powder X‐ray diffraction validated the crystalline phase purity.

Host Traits Impact the Outcome of Metagenomic Library Preparation From Dental Calculus Samples Across Diverse Mammals

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 8, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Dental calculus metagenomics has emerged as a valuable tool for studying the oral microbiomes of humans and a few select mammals. With increasing interest in wild animal microbiomes, it is important to understand how widely this material can be used across the mammalian tree of life, refine the related protocols and understand the expected ...

Deriving the Dynamical Masses of Ultra-Luminous X-ray Sources with OSIRIS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Ultra Luminous X-ray Sources (ULXs) are extragalactic X-ray point sources with LX ∼ 1039 − 1041 erg s−1 discovered in the 80s with the Einstein satellite and confirmed as black hole X-ray binaries during the last decade.

How evolution repeatedly builds complexity: a case study with C4 photosynthesis in Blepharis (Acanthaceae)

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 4, Page 2092-2110, November 2025.
Summary With over 60 parallel origins representing evolutionary replicates, C4 photosynthesis is well‐suited for studying complex trait evolution. However, lineages with diverse C3–C4 intermediate species are scarce, leaving uncertainty in models of C4 evolution.
