A Rb-Sr ISOCHRON FOR THE SHAP GRANITE

SUMMARY A Rb-Sr age of 394 ± 3 Ma has been determined from a 21–point isochron for the Shap Granite, which was probably emplaced in lower Devonian times. The determination provides a minimum age for the base of the Gedinnian Stage. K-Ar measurements on biotites and U-Pb measurements on zircons from the granite give similar ages.

Revision of lunar Rb-Sr ages

Abstract Becalibration of ‘spikes’ using stoichiometric Rb and Sr salts recently issued by the National Bureau of Standards shows that our determinations of the ratio 87 Rb 86 Sr in lunar samples have been low by 1.8 per cent, which we attribute to non-stoichiometry of the salts previously used for calibration, particularly RbCl.

Abstract A new ion-exchange separation procedure is described for the isolation of Sr from Ca. It has been designed to give reproducible results with only approximately known reagent concentrations.
