Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Structural fire design of ear strengthened RC beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper discusses the structural fire design of reinforced concrete beams strengthened in flexure by means of externally applied reinforcement (EAR). It is focusing on the Eurocode approach for fire rating of individual members.

Strengthening of RC beams with rectangular web openings using externally bonded FRP: Numerical simulation

open access: yes, 2020
Making web openings in reinforced concrete (RC) beams is frequently required for the passage of utility ducts and/or pipes. Such web opening(s) leads to reduction of the strength and stiffness of the beam.

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...

Assessment of the effectiveness of prestressed NSM CFRP laminates for the flexural strengthening of RC beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with prestressed near-surface-mounted (NSM) carbon-fiber-reinforced-polymer (CFRP) laminate was investigated in this paper. For this purpose, four RC beams were tested under monotonic four-point loading. One

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Experimental and finite element dynamic analysis of incrementally loaded reinforced concrete structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This work investigates influence of damage in reinforced concrete (RC) structures on their dynamic properties through modal testing and non-linear finite element (FE) analysis. Five RC beams were designed with the fundamental flexural mode frequencies in

Progressive Collapse Analysis of RC Beams

open access: yesIOSR Journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, 2013
This paper investigates the nonlinear static analysis for studying the behavior of Progressive failure of RC beams. Nonlinear static analysis is strongly influenced by basic inputs like stress-strain relationship of constitutive materials, P-M yield interaction and moment rotation capacity of members.

Low Resistance Interphase Formation at the PEO‐LiTFSI|LGPS Interface in Lithium Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Interfacial charge transfer and low‐resistance interphase formation between PEO‐based polymer and Li10GeP2S12 solid electrolytes are investigated using multi‐electrode impedance spectroscopy and advanced analytical techniques such as XPS and ToF‐SIMS.

Design philosophy issues of fiber reinforced polymer reinforced concrete structures

open access: yes, 2002
The conventional design philosophy for reinforced concrete (RC) relies heavily on the ductile properties of steel. These ductile properties are used as a "fuse" and conceal the large uncertainty in the determination of modes of failure caused ...
