Strengthening of RC Buildings with Composites
2017The use of composite materials for reinforced concrete (RC) structures strengthening has become a well-established practice in the last decades, especially in seismic zones, either for retrofitting RC buildings not designed to resist seismic loads or for post-event structural rehabilitations.

Seismic Assessment of Existing RC Buildings
2003Two procedures are presented for seismic assessment of individual RC buildings on the basis of member seismic chord rotation demands. In the (simpler) “preliminary” evaluation procedure, inelastic chord rotation demands are estimated from linear analysis, while forces for brittle failure modes are computed in a capacity-design fashion.

Seismic Assessment of RC Frame Buildings
2016In the chapter, the N2 method and the non-linear dynamic analysis (NDA) are applied for the assessment of seismic performance of two variants of a 4-storey reinforced concrete (RC) frame building. The first variant is represented by the bare frames, whereas in the second variant infill panels are included in the upper three storeys, thus creating a ...

Direct Probability-Based Seismic Design of RC Buildings
2010A method is proposed for designing RC structures that satisfy prescribed requirements in terms of frequency of exceedance of a number of performance levels. The method assumes the period and base shear ratio as the two most relevant (global) design variables.

In this paper it is investigated the performance of a hybrid control system for the reduction of the seismic vulnerability of existing reinforced concrete (RC) asymmetric structures with coupled modes. For this kind of structures the purely passive control system is not always able to warrantee an effective response control, due to the modal coupling ...

Analysis of RC Buildings by Metamodel Approaches
2020Response of RC structures is very complex and dynamic in nature because of the vulnerabilities that exist in geometry, material properties and loading. To represent the random dynamic responses accurately, stochastic analysis is chosen here. The stochastic analysis can be done by two types of methods, like statistical and the non-statistical approaches.

Seismic Evaluation of RC Stepped Building Frames
2012‘Stepped building’ frames, with vertical geometric irregularity, are now increasingly encountered in modern urban construction. This chapter proposes a new method of quantifying irregularity in such building frames, accounting for dynamic characteristics (mass and stiffness).
