Record‐breaking May heat in the UK: contrasting the extreme temperatures of 2024 and 1944 using climate attribution

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
This study quantifies the likelihood of May temperature extremes in present, natural (climatology based on pre‐industrial forcings) and future climates. The attribution applies in the context of a May heatwave comparable to the record‐breaking 1944 event and the persistent record‐breaking monthly‐mean temperature from 2024.

Nest‐site fidelity of Arctic terns Sterna paradisaea in a managed environment exposed to benign human activity

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Human activity near seabird colonies is often equated with disturbance. Coping with human disturbance is a critical task in the management of seabird colonies where human access is an issue. Nest‐site fidelity and breeding dispersal were characterised in an Arctic tern population exposed to a high level of benign human activity from resident ...

Effect of Solution Temperature on the Microstructure of 18%Ni Maraging Steel Modified With Nb—X‐Ray Diffraction and Electron Backscattered Scanning Diffraction (EBSD) Analyzes

open access: yesX-Ray Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Maraging steels are high strength alloys used in applications that require both high mechanical strength and toughness. To achieve these properties, one of the heat treatments applied is solution treatment, although it can reduce toughness.

Improved Prediction Model for the Corrosion of Aluminium Alloy Conductors: Considering the Influence of Electric Field and Dynamic Boundary

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The corrosion problems of high‐voltage power transmission conductors typically occur in environments with electric fields. However, current research mainly focuses on atmospheric corrosion of metals with limited attention to the combined effects of electric fields and atmospheric conditions on metal corrosion.
