Spatiotemporal Droughts Propagation and Direct Driving Variables Under Climate Change Projections: A Case Study of Tunisia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Drought spatiotemporal propagation and direct driving variables are assessed at multiple time steps with high spatial resolution using various drought indices (SPI, SPEI and SPDI) and entropy based mutual information under an ensemble of climate change projections over Tunisia. ABSTRACT Projecting drought occurrence and spatiotemporal propagation under

Projected Intensification of Hydroclimatic Extremes in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, Under CMIP6 Scenarios

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract presents observed (1963–2023) and projected changes in hydroclimatic extremes in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. It integrates dry‐spell duration (CDD) and extreme precipitation (R95pTOT) using CMIP6 multimodel ensembles under SSP1‐2.6, SSP2‐4.5, and SSP5‐8.5.

Evaluating Sleep Apnea: In‐Lab Versus at‐Home Recording Time and the Impact of Positional Disease

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
We evaluated the minimum recording time needed for in‐lab polysomnography (PSG1) and home sleep apnea test Type 3 portable monitoring (HSAT) to accurately reflect the full‐night apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) in patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Reconfigurable Circularly Polarized Terahertz Emission from vdW Ferroelectric NbOI2

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A controllable chiral terahertz pulse can be generated using a simple dual‐flake vdW ferroelectric NbOI2 emitter in which the polar axes of the two NbOI2 flakes are orthogonal. Both the chirality and the ellipticity can be manipulated by varying the separation distance and the orientations of their polar axes.

Optical Skyrmions with Tunable or Reconfigurable Topology Using Spin‐Decoupled Metaoptics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The work introduces advanced optical elements capable of generating and dynamically reconfiguring complex light patterns known as optical skyrmions. By precisely shaping light polarization at the nanoscale, a single engineered metasurface can generate and manipulate robust and tunable polarization textures in an efficient and scalable way.

Topological Photonic Devices and Circuits at Terahertz Frequencies

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review examines how 3D topological insulators and emerging topological photonic phases enable robust, low‐loss and defect‐immune terahertz devices. Fundamental properties, device implementations and topological transport mechanisms are surveyed, revealing new opportunities for reconfigurable, high‐performance THz components and scalable ...

The niche variation hypothesis predicts hunting returns across human cultures

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The niche variation hypothesis (NVH) proposes that a broader population niche arises from greater individual specialization. Despite decades of empirical testing, research remains constrained to non‐human foragers, and the generality of NVH may extend beyond wildlife. The analysis of > 8000 hunting records from 12 human societies across four continents

Assessing the evolutionary distinctiveness of a highly threatened plant group: The urgency to preserve a unique lineage of evolution in Brazil

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Brazil's diverse flora is under several threats, with many unique lineages facing extinction, particularly in biodiverse regions like the Cerrado and campo rupestre. This study sheds light on the conservation needs of Cambessedesia (Melastomataceae), an endemic genus with 95% of its species endangered, using an approach to rank and prioritise species ...

Implementing potential climate‐smart practices through diverse partnerships

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change is one of the greatest threats to society, negatively impacting agriculture and crop yields. Globally, agriculture is also one of the largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting sectors. Climate‐smart practices that are developed through diverse partnerships with scientists and practitioners are needed to decrease GHG emissions. We implemented
