Investigation of distal repetitive sequences in the genus allium

open access: yes, 2009
PhDThe telomere is a DNA/protein structure required to maintain the ends of linear chromosomes. Usually the DNA component comprises a highly conserved tandemly repeated minisatellite sequence.

Temporal frames of 45S rDNA site-number variation in diploid plant lineages: lessons from the rock rose genus Cistus (Cistaceae)

open access: yes, 2016
The perception that the turnover of 45S rDNA site number in plants is highly dynamic pervades the literature on rDNA evolution. However, most reported evidences come from the study of polyploid systems and from crop species subjected to intense agronomic

Accelerating the prioritisation of plant species with underexplored medicinal potential: The pm4mp (Phylogenetic Methods for Medicinal Plants) R package

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Medicinal plants used in ethnobotanical traditions to treat or prevent diseases have gained renewed interest for their largely untapped potential in drug discovery. In this study, we developed and tested novel methods to prioritise plant species based on their unexplored medicinal potential. By enabling researchers to target the most promising species,

Polymorphism of ITS sequences in 35S rRNA genes in Elymus dahuricus aggregate species: two cryptic species?

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2019
Nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences were sequenced for 23 species and subspecies of Elymus sensu lato collected in Russia. The Neighbor-Net analysis of ITS sequences suggested that there are four ribotypes called Core Northern ...

Detection and differentiation of African coconut phytoplasmas: RFLP analysis of PCR-amplified 16S rDNA and DNA hybridisation

open access: yes, 1997
Phytoplasmas associated with lethal decline diseases of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) in west and east Africa were detected by the specific amplification of their 16S rRNA genes. The primers used were based on conserved mollicute-specific and coconut-

Exploring eco‐evolutionary and temporal patterns of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities colonizing Sorghum bicolor across sites of contrasting land use history and climate

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Sorghum bicolor is a globally important cereal crop with annual yields exceeding 50 million tons across more than 100 countries and can be grown on marginal lands where conventional agriculture is limited. We examined how eight genetically diverse sorghum genotypes shaped arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) community assembly across two contrasting ...

Rio1 promotes rDNA stability and downregulates RNA polymerase I to ensure rDNA segregation.

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceThe conserved protein kinase Rio1 localizes to the cytoplasm and nucleus of eukaryotic cells. While the roles of Rio1 in the cytoplasm are well characterized, its nuclear function remains unknown.

Betulinic Acid Enema Alleviates Colitis by Targeting Vitamin D Receptor to Protect the Intestinal Mucosal Barrier and Modulate Mucosa‐Associated Microbiota

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the colon with limited effectiveness and safety of current drug therapies. Betulinic acid (BA) is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid present in traditional Chinese medicines used clinically as retention enemas for UC, but its direct effects and mechanisms remain unclear ...

Periodontal microbiology and microbial etiology of periodontal diseases: Historical concepts and contemporary perspectives

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This narrative review summarizes the collective knowledge on periodontal microbiology, through a historical timeline that highlights the European contribution in the global field. The etiological concepts on periodontal disease culminate to the ecological plaque hypothesis and its dysbiosis‐centered interpretation.

Distinct Nasal Microbiome Profiles and Prediction Model for Allergic Rhinitis, Nonallergic Rhinitis, and Healthy Children

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.
