Tomographic PIV measurement of a re-entrant jet in a cavitating venturi
Partial cavitation occurs when low-pressure regions caused by separated shear layers are filled with vapours. Partial cavitation is inherently unsteady and leads to periodic cloud shedding. The periodically generated re-entrant jet travelling beneath the vapour cavity is considered as one of the mechanisms responsible for the periodic cloud shedding ...

The cavitation instability induced by the development of a re-entrant jet
The instability of a partial cavity induced by the development of a re-entrant jet is investigated on the basis of experiments conducted on a diverging step. Detailed visualizations of the cavity behaviour allowed us to identify the domain of the re-entrant jet instability which leads to classical cloud cavitation.

The structure of near-wall re-entrant flow and its influence on cloud cavitation instability. [PDF]
: The so-called ‘re-entrant jet’ is fundamental to periodic cloud shedding in partial cavitation. However, the exact physical mechanism governing this phenomenon remains ambiguous.

Investigation for Unsteady Cavitation and Re-entrant Jet on a Foil Section
The mechanism of cloud cavitation generation from a sheet cavity on a foil section has been studied by several researchers. It has been revealed that re-entrant jet cuts the leading edge of sheet cavity and breaks the clear vapour structure into small bubble clusters as cloud cavity.

Study on Unsteady Cavitation Flow and Pressure Pulsation Characteristics in the Regulating Valve
A combined numerical-experiment investigation on the unsteady cavitation flow and pressure fluctuation characteristics in the regulating valves is conducted in this paper. The cavitation flow in the regulating valve is an unsteady and periodic flow which

Numerical Insight into the Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability Appearance in Cavitating Flow
Recently the development of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in cavitating flow in Venturi microchannels was discovered. Its importance is not negligible, as it destabilizes the shear layer and promotes instabilities and turbulent eddies formation in the ...

Passive control of cavitating flow around an axisymmetric projectile by using a trip bar
Quasi-periodical evolutions such as shedding and collapsing of unsteady cloud cavitating flow, induce strong pressure fluctuations, what may deteriorate maneuvering stability and corrode surfaces of underwater vehicles.
