Highly precise Re–Os dating for molybdenite using alkaline fusion and NTIMS

Talanta, 1998
The technique described in this paper represents the modification and combination of two previously existing methods, alkaline fusion and negative thermal ion mass spectrometry (NTIMS). We have used this technique to analyze repeatedly a homogeneous molybdenite powder used as a reference standard in our laboratory.

Dating Of Petroleum Using The Re-os Geochronometer : Experimental Study

Qatar Foundation Annual Research Conference Proceedings Volume 2014 Issue 1, 2014
The purpose of this study is to better understand the geochemical behavior of Re and Os in petroleum in the context of the Re-Os radiometric age dating of petroleum. Rhenium (Re) and osmium (Os) are organophile elements. For this reason, the 187Re-187Os radiogenic system is well adapted to date organic-rich rocks such as source rocks. Absolute datation

Molybdenite Re–Os dating constrains gravitational collapse of the Sveconorwegian orogen, SW Scandinavia

Lithos, 2006
Abstract Re–Os dating of molybdenite from small deposits is used to define crustal domains exhibiting ductile versus brittle behaviour during gravitational collapse of the Sveconorwegian orogen in SW Scandinavia. A 1019 ± 3 Ma planar quartz vein defines a minimum age for brittle behaviour in central Telemark.

Re-Os DATING OF SULFIDES ASSOCIATED WITH GOLD MINERALIZATION IN CENTRAL VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

Economic Geology, 2001
We report Re-Os isotope ages that are the first for sulfides closely associated with gold mineralization at the Bendigo and Maldon goldfields in central Victoria. Two arsenopyrite samples from Bendigo contain 11 ppb Re and 0.08 ppb highly radiogenic Os (LLHR samples; Stein et al., 2000) and have model ages of 444 ± 7 and 447 ± 7 Ma, with a mean model ...

Direct Re–Os dating of pyrite from the Jianchaling Au deposit, West Qinling, China

Acta Geochimica, 2021
The West Qingling Orogen is endowed with more than 1100t gold resources and with 50 gold deposits, ranking it the third-largest gold province in China. The Jianchaling giant gold deposit with 52 t gold reserve is a typical orogenic gold deposit in West Qinling Orogen. The deposit lacks accurate and direct metallogenic age. Five pyrite samples collected

Re–Os dating of maltenes and asphaltenes within single samples of crude oil

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2016
Abstract Re–Os geochronology of oil may constrain the timing of oil formation and improve oil-source and oil–oil correlations. Typically, asphaltene (ASPH), the heaviest and most Re–Os rich oil fraction, from multiple oils within an oil field or a larger petroleum system are analyzed to obtain sufficient spread in Re–Os isotopic ratios, a ...

Combining Paleomagnetic and Re‐Os Isotope Data to Date Hydrocarbon Generation and Accumulation Processes

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2023
AbstractUnraveling the complex relationship between orogenesis and hydrocarbon formation and accumulation is challenging and is often hampered by physical and chemical overprints of younger events. The Permian reservoir in the Longmen Shan orogen, South China, is such an example, and its evolution has been hotly debated.

Preparation and Certification of Re‐Os Dating Reference Materials: Molybdenites HLP and JDC

Geostandards and Geoanalytical Research, 2004
Two Re‐Os dating reference material molybdenites were prepared. Molybdenite JDC and molybdenite HLP are from a carbonate vein‐type molybdenum‐(lead)‐uranium deposit in the Jinduicheng‐Huanglongpu area of Shaanxi province, China. The samples proved to be homogeneous, based on the coefficient of variation of analytical results and an analysis of variance

Re-Os Dating of Molybdenites from Southern India: Implication for Pan-African Metallogeny

Journal Geological Society of India, 1994
Abstract Rhenium-Osmium (Re-Os) dating of two molybdenite samples from the alkali granite and pegmatite of Ambalavayal in northern Kerala (S. India) yielded ages of 567±28 Ma and 566±77 Ma, respectively. These ages closely compare with the previously determined Rb-Sr whole rock age of 595±20 Ma Rb-Sr for granite, and K-Ar biotite age of ...

Re–Os geochronology of the lacustrine Green River Formation: Insights into direct depositional dating of lacustrine successions, Re–Os systematics and paleocontinental weathering

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2012
Abstract Lacustrine sedimentary successions provide exceptionally high-resolution records of continental geological processes, responding to tectonic, climatic and magmatic influences. These successions are therefore essential for correlating geological and climatic phenomena across continents and furthermore the globe.
