Macroscopic effects of reaction time on traffic flow characteristics
Physica Scripta, 2009Reaction time is defined as a physiological parameter reflecting the period of time between perceiving a stimulus and performing a relevant action. In the traffic flow theory literature, the effects of reaction time on string stability have been described using the microscopic modeling approach.

Turbulence effects on chemical reactions in smog chamber flows
Atmospheric Environment (1967), 1987Abstract Turbulent mixing effects on the reaction rate of a non-premixed flow are presented for a moderately slow second-order irreversible chemical reaction. The turbulent mixing process leads to inhomogeneities in the concentration of the reactants.

Low-cost microfluidic devices are desirable for many chemical processes; however, access to robust, inert, and appropriately structured materials for the inner channel wall is severely limited. Here, the shear force within confined microchannels was tuned through control of reactant solution fluid-flow and shown to dramatically impact nano- through ...

We present a numerical study on the mixing process between two stable states of a chemical reaction model. The two stable states of the reactions are found in practice not to coexist, and a single stable state of homogeneous scalar concentration is achieved over long time.

Mutual effect of vibrational relaxation and chemical reactions in viscous multitemperature flows
Physical Review E, 2016We study coupling of vibrational relaxation and chemical reactions in nonequilibrium viscous multitemperature flows. A general theoretical model is proposed on the basis of the Chapman-Enskog method modified for strongly nonequilibrium reacting flows; the model differs from models commonly used in computational fluid dynamics since it is able to ...

Diffusion and Heterogeneous Reaction. IV. Effects of Gas-Phase Reaction and Convective Flow
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1961The kinetics of atom recombination by homogeneous and heterogeneous reaction are examined. The analysis includes the combined effects of first-order surface reaction and third-order gas-phase reaction in a system undergoing diffusive and convective flow.

Effect of Chemical Reaction Rates on Aeroheating Predictions of Reentry Flows
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2010The present work deals with the sensitivity of aero-heating predictions to variations in chemical reaction rates in high enthalpy flows over re-entry capsules. With in this scope, numerical simulations are performed by varying the reaction rate constants over their uncertainty range. FIRE II re-entry capsule at 35 km altitude is chosen as the test case.

In the diffusion model of chemical reactions, the encounter (reaction) rate between reactant particles is governed by the Smoluchowski equation, which is a diffusion equation in a field of forces. We consider crowded environments where the particles diffuse through a "liquid" of like particles. Assuming that the liquid-like short-range structure around

Effects of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in flow of Powell-Eyring fluid
Journal of Central South University, 2015The steady two-dimensional flow of Powell-Eyring fluid is investigated. The flow is caused by a stretching surface with homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. The governing nonlinear differential equations are reduced to the ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations.

The jet mixing effect on reaction flow in a bluff-body burner
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1994Abstract This study investigates the mixing effects of primary and secondary jets on flame stability as fuel/air is injected into a bluff-body burner. A two-dimensional spray combustion model, based upon a SIMPLER method, is used for numerical studies of combusting flow.
