Diffusion and reaction in porous glass

AbstractConstant pressure diffusion rates of hydrogen through Vycor porous glass were measured in nitrogen and neon systems. The experimental diffusivities are less than those predicted by the random pore model indicating that this model may not be satisfactory for a low porosity material such as Vycor.

SiO2-based glass/bone interfacial reactions

Abstract Porous cylinders of a glass (A-3) belonging to the system SiO 2 -CaO-K 2 O-Na 2 O-MgO-P 2 O 5 were implanted in rat tibia. The samples were harvested 3, 6, 8 and 12 weeks thereafter and examined histologically. Formation of new bone surrounding the implant was observed.
