Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Ultrasound to Enhance a Liquid–Liquid Reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Liquid–liquid mass transfer with ultrasound was investigated experimentally during the hydrolysis of n-amyl acetate. Power ultrasound is supposed to improve the yield and kinetics of such multiphase chemical reactions thanks to the mechanical effects of ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Low-grade fly ash in portland cement blends: A decoupling approach to evaluate reactivity and hydration effects

open access: yesCement
Fly ash with low glass content is often prohibited from use in concrete due to the low reactivity and/or the inclusion of contaminants. However, the scarcity of high-quality fly ash promotes the evaluation of the feasibility of using fly ash with low ...

An atomic scale comparison of the reaction of Bioglass® in two types of simulated body fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A class of melt quenched silicate glasses, containing calcium, phosphorus and alkali metals, and having the ability to promote bone regeneration and to fuse to living bone, is produced commercially as Bioglass.

A note on the existence of non-monotone non-oscillating wavefronts

open access: yes, 2013
In this note, we present a monostable delayed reaction-diffusion equation with the unimodal birth function which admits only non-monotone wavefronts.

TMC4 localizes to multiple taste cell types in the mouse taste papillae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Transmembrane channel‐like 4 (TMC4), a voltage‐dependent chloride channel, plays a critical role in amiloride‐insensitive salty taste transduction. TMC4 is broadly expressed in all mature taste cell types, suggesting a possible involvement of multiple cell types in this pathway.

Rheology of Reactive Polymer Blends: Separation of Mixing and Reatcion Steps

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2001
The crosslinking reaction in various types of polymer blends was followed by rheological measurements. Miscible polymers with controlled glass transition temperature, chain length and number of functional units per chain were synthesized by bulk radical ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...
