A theoretical background for the design and coordinated control of multiple compensation equipment acting in the same network is presented. It makes use of instantaneous power terms which are conservative in every network and naturally extend the usual power definitions to the case of distorted voltages and currents.

The article proposes an original technique for forming the correcting current of an automated compensator of a reactive power. The synthesized technique and the scheme of the automatic compensator of reactive power are presented. The device is based on tracking algorithms and is assembled on the basis of a microprocessor.

The potential of a new adaptive control for reactive power sources is investigated. In the large disturbance regimes, the adaptive signals supplement the nominal, thyristor activated, reactors and capacitors in manipulating the network voltage.
