Sparse Linear Reactive Power Dispatch

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1985
Abstract This paper presents a Linear Programming (LP) based algorithm to solve reactive power dispatch problems. Linear sensitivities are derived using the reactive power model from the fast decoupled power flow solution method. A suitable criterion is suggested to form a sparse reactive power sensitivity matrix.

Reactive-power dispatch by successive quadratic programming

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1989
The reactive-power dispatch is formulated as the minimization of real-power losses in the system, utilizing a full set of control variables: generator voltages, switchable shunt susceptances, and transformer taps. The solution of the loss problem is obtained by successively solving quadratic programming problems.

Collaborative optimization of economic dispatch and reactive power dispatch

2019 Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2019
Economic dispatch and reactive power dispatch are two important tasks in power systems, which respectively concern the economy and environmental friendliness and the safety and reliability of grid operation. Essentially different from the related literature with separately solving the two dispatches, this paper is devoted to collaboratively optimizing ...

Security constrained optimal reactive power dispatch

Electric Power Systems Research, 1989
Abstract This paper presents a systematic methodology to allocate reactive power devices in a power system. This is achieved through the application of an active set analysis based linear programming technique. The procedure takes into consideration outages which cause voltage problems and also existing reactive power controllers are fully utilized ...

Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch Optimization Using STATCOM

Journal of The Institution of Engineers (India): Series B, 2021
Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is an advanced function which determines the best possible set of control variables (optimal solutions). Power system operates optimally on these optimal solutions. The objective of the ORPD is to minimize the transmission line losses and improves the voltage profile of the power system.

Security-constrained reactive power dispatch

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1991
A method of solving the preventive security-constrained reactive power VAr dispatch problem is presented. A decomposition-coordination scheme is conceived in order to take advantage of the special structure of the problem. Instead of tearing the network, the problem itself is decomposed into smaller subproblems. Techniques are presented for contingency

Optimal real and reactive power dispatch

Electric Power Systems Research, 1984
Abstract This paper presents a method for optimal real and reactive power dispatch for the economic operation of power systems. As in other methods, the problem is decomposed into a P-optimization module and a Q-optimization module, but in this method both modules use the same generation cost objective function.

Reactive power dispatch incorporating voltage stability

IEE Proceedings C Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1992
The cause of the 1977 New York blackout has been proved to be the reactive-power problem. The 1987 Tokyo blackout was believed to be due to a reactive-power shortage and a voltage collapse at the summer peak load. These events have confirmed the importance of reactive-power planning and dispatching in maintaining the security of modern power systems ...

Chance Constrained Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch

2018 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2018
The uncertainties from deepening penetration of renewable energy resources have already shown to impact not only the market operations, but also the physical operations in large power systems. It is demonstrated that deterministic modeling of wind would lead to voltage insecurity in the reality where wind fluctuates.

Reactive Power Dispatching for Power System Voltage Security

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1983
An optimization-based method is presented for determining the scheduling of reactive equipment (capacitors for example) on an hourly basis for maximum steady-state power system security during normal and post-contingency conditions. The method simultaneously deals with the effects of a number of contingencies, and includes all bus voltages as ...
