Biomineral‐Inspired Organic/Inorganic Colloidal Liquid‐Crystalline Hybrids for Photoresponsive Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of photoresponsive liquid‐crystalline (LC) adhesives based on biomineral‐inspired organic/inorganic colloidal hybrids is reported. These colloidal LC materials are formed by hybridization of a hydroxyapatite nanorod with azobenzene‐based forklike molecules.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Conformational Switching of Proteins on Material Surfaces Enabled by Peptide‐Oriented Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Responsive biointerfaces could be achieved using conformationally responsive proteins; however, their interconversion can be lost upon surface adsorption. Herein, we demonstrate that the incorporation a Au binding peptide into calmodulin allows for binding control on Au wherein the protein retains conformational switching. This capability was confirmed

Optimization of Sono-Electrocoagulation Process for the Removal of Dye Using Central Composite Design

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2019
Sono-electrocaogulation process was successfully applied for the removal of RR120 (Reactive Red 120) in the presence of activated carbon. For this purpose, the process variables were optimized using CCD (Central Composite Design).

Binary adsorption of Reactive Red 120 and Yellow 81 on Spirogyra majuscula

open access: yes, 2013
Binary adsorption of Reactive Red (RR) 120 and Reactive Yellow (RY) 81 on Spirogyra majuscula was performed as function of initial dye concentration, pH regimes and contact time. Characterization of this alga was confirmed by FTIR spectrum.

Mono‐Material Polydisulfides for Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tapes With Closed‐Loop Recyclability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A high‐performance pressure‐sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape is developed where both the adhesive layer and plastic backing layer can be recycled back to monomer in a closed‐loop cycle. Both layers of the tape are composed of analogous polydisulfide copolymers using only two unique monomers, thus giving it a mono‐material design and enabling recycling of ...

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.
