Preliminary Design of Reactive Distillation Columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A procedure that combines feasibility analysis, synthesis and design of reactive distillation columns is introduced. The main interest of this methodology lies on a progressive introduction of the process complexity.

Single-session upper limb plyometric training is as effective as two sessions for improving muscle strength, power, and serve velocity in male youth tennis players: a randomized parallel controlled study

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
IntroductionProviding a balanced training stimulus that promotes positive adaptations without excessively increasing training volume—and thereby avoiding disruptions to the training process—is a challenging task for strength and conditioning coaches ...

Differences in Strength, Patient-Reported Outcomes, and Return-to-Play Rates Between Athletes With Primary Versus Revision ACL Reconstruction at 9 Months After Surgery

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2020
Background: Patient-reported outcomes and return-to-play (RTP) rates are inferior after revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) compared with primary ACLR.

Influence of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag on the compressive strength and ductility of Ultra High-performance fibre reinforced cementitious composites

open access: yesCement, 2022
The mechanical properties of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRCC) is basically influenced by the type of fibres and reactive binders used. Fibres primarily influence the ductility whereas reactive binders influence the

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Lower Extremity Stretch-Shortening Cycle Performance in the Vertical and Horizontal Direction as Key Determinants of Success in Collegiate Male Taekwondo

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology
Background/Objectives: The underlying mechanisms of taekwondo-specific jumping ability among different competition levels are still unknown. This study aimed to compare vertical and horizontal stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) performance between athletes ...

Influence of Sex and Maximum Strength on Reactive Strength Index-Modified.

open access: yesJournal of sports science & medicine, 2020
Reactive strength index-modified (RSImod) is a measure of lower body explosiveness calculated by dividing jump height by time to takeoff. RSImod is different between stronger and weaker athletes and between males and females. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in RSImod between males and females while controlling for maximal strength

Effect of pH and ionic strength on the reactivity of Bioglass® 45S5

open access: yesBiomaterials, 2005
Bioglass 45S5 is a silica-based melt-derived glass, used in medical field as a bone regenerative material because of the deposition of a layer of hydroxy carbonate apatite (HCA) on the surface of the glass when immersed in body fluid. The present paper studies the early steps of reaction of 2-microm sized particles of Bioglass, in solutions buffered ...

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...
