Single‐Step Production of Mannitol From Yacon Fructo‐Oligosaccharides Using Fructophilic Lactic Acid Bacteria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Mannitol is a sweetener with a low glycaemic index and calorific value that can be produced efficiently by bacterial transformation. We demonstrate its production by Leuconostoc mesenteroides and Fructobacillus fructophilus from a novel substrate, fructo‐oligosaccharides from the tuber yacon in a single‐step process that is amenable to scale‐up ...

Machine Learning Enabled Prediction and Interpretation of the Initial Dissolution Rates of Nuclear Waste Glasses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate prediction of chemical durability, such as dissolution rate, is crucial for glass materials used in diverse applications, including pharmaceutical packaging and nuclear waste disposal. In this work, machine learning‐based prediction models were developed using structural descriptors derived from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and

Biobased Oligo‐ and Polyesters from Fatty Acids with Demonstrated Biodegradability or Recyclability for Industrial Applications in a Circular Economy

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 17, 14 September 2026.
This “Perspectives”‐article describes and discusses two recent developments in the field of biobased as well as biodegradable or chemically recyclable oligomers/polymers for applications in the lubricant and plastics product segments, which are efficiently accessible and which are based on the utilization of unsaturated fatty acids as feedstocks. This “

Recent Applications of Propylene Carbonate as a Solvent in Sustainable Organic Synthesis

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 17, 14 September 2026.
This review evaluates propylene carbonate (PC) as a non‐toxic green solvent in organic synthesis, highlighting its performance in key reactions including cross‐couplings, asymmetric hydrogenations, peptide synthesis and biocatalysis. Across these processes, PC delivers yields comparable to conventional and alternative green solvents.
