Catalytic Pyrolysis of Torrefied Municipal Solid Waste Using Local Iron for Improved Bio‐Oil Yield and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Catalytic Pyrolysis of Torrefied Municipal Solid Waste to sustainable bio‐oil. ABSTRACT South Africa faces growing municipal solid waste (MSW) accumulation and energy insecurity due to fossil fuel dependence. Torrefaction improves MSW for waste‐to‐energy use, while conventional pyrolysis produces low‐quality oxygen‐rich bio‐oil.

Hydrogen Production With Water Electrolysis Technologies: Advances, Performance, and Potential Use for Low‐Gradient Combustion

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This review links recent advances in water electrolysis with hydrogen utilization in low‐gradient combustion systems. While hydrogen eliminates direct CO2 emissions, its environmental and economic benefits depend strongly on production pathways, system‐level efficiency, and NOx mitigation through MILD/FLOX/HiTAC combustion.

The Critical Role of Economies of Scale: A Techno‐Economic Assessment of Small‐ Versus Large‐Scale Biogas Upgrading in Rural Tanzania

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Small‐scale biogas upgrading can improve methane quality but remains financially unattractive to individual rural households. Community‐scale implementation substantially lowers energy costs, demonstrating that economies of scale are critical to making purified biogas a viable clean‐cooking option in Tanzania.

Impacting Fuelling Dynamics Towards Tunable Liquid Metal Machine

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Confining liquid metal machines (LMMs) within one‐dimensional semi‐open channels reveals sustained, tuneable reciprocating dynamics, driven by fuel region evolution and boundary interactions. This work elucidates how spatial confinement and obstacle materials regulate symmetry‐breaking and directional control, enabling predictable LMM operation and ...
