Technology of Research Reactors

Annual Review of Nuclear Science, 1962
Engineering developments in the field of high-power (1014 and 1015 neutrons/cm2 sec) research reactors are reviewed with emphasis on fuel element technology and the principle of the flux trap. Calculational methods used in designing reactors are discussed. Several examples of two types of advanced research reactor are described: plate-fuel-element tank

Particle-based biofilm reactor technology

Trends in Biotechnology, 2000
Particle-based biofilm reactors provide the potential to develop compact and high-rate processes. In these reactors, a large biomass content can be maintained (up to 30 g l-1), and the large specific surface area (up to 3000 m2 m-3) ensures that the conversions are not strongly limited by the biofilm liquid mass-transfer rate.

Synthol reactor technology development

Catalysis Today, 2002
Abstract Since Sasol introduced the Kellogg designed circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactors at Sasol 1 in the 1950s, the commercial high-temperature Fischer–Tropsch (HTFT) process has had a dynamic ongoing development resulting, recently, in the introduction of Sasol advanced synthol (SAS) reactor operation only at Secunda, 1999.

Technology and Applications of Microengineered Reactors

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2002
Microengineered reactors are a new type of reactor. Their novelty dictates a new approach in design, which requires familiarization with the various manufacturing techniques and materials, and with differences in fluid behaviour and dominant phenomena in the microscale.

Slurry Reactors for Coal Technology

1983
In recent years, the use of coal as a raw material for the productions of hydrocarbons, liquid transportation fuels, chemical feedstocks and solid fuel is gaining importance. Three important processes for the achievement of this goal are: (1) direct coal liquefaction, (2) removal of sulfur from coal by oxydesulfurization and (3) indirect coal ...

Reactor Technology for Syngas and Hydrogen

2005
Changes and developments in the markets for synthesis gas and hydrogen, driven largely by environmental and remote gas monetization, are leading to innovation in the reaction engineering of syngas generation. The opportunities vary in scale from the order of liter volumes of catalyst (fuel cell hydrogen preparation) up to 100 te catalyst (gas-to ...
