Anaerobic Digestion Performance and Microbial Community Structures in a Pilot-Scale Up-Flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) Treating Distillery Wastewater. [PDF]
This study demonstrates stable anaerobic treatment of high‐strength distillery wastewater in a pilot‐scale UASB reactor, achieving 86% COD removal and 75% methane yield at an OLR of 10.0 kg COD/m3/d. Microbial analysis highlights the role of syntrophic bacteria and hydrogenotrophic methanogens in enhancing performance under high OLR, offering insights ...

Phosphorus Recovery From Wastewater Through Anaerobic Digestion Under Sub-Supersaturation Conditions. [PDF]
The presence of organic matter, such as NaAc, proteins, and urea, in wastewater favors phosphorus recovery in UASB reactors at a relatively low phosphorus concentration of 30 mg/L. The hydrolysis of these organic compounds creates localized supersaturation, facilitating the formation of phosphate salts.

Novel Respirometry Measurement and Comparison of Monod Kinetic Constants and Methanogen Concentrations for 27 Full-Scale Anaerobic Bioreactors. [PDF]
Kinetic coefficients (km and Ks) and methanogen concentrations (Xac and Xh2) for anaerobic bioreactors were measured using novel respirometry. Values are needed to understand anaerobic biotechnology and modeling. Ostensibly due to microbial community differences, km and X varied over orders of magnitude.

Anaerobic Codigestion of Municipal Wastewater, Landfill Leachate, and Crude Glycerin: Process Stability and Methane Yield Assessment Using a Screening Design [PDF]
Anaerobic codigestion of municipal wastewater with landfill leachate and crude glycerin can achieve near‐theoretical methane yields (0.349 L NCH4/g tCODadd). An optimal mixture of 2% leachate and 1% glycerin was identified, as higher glycerin content negatively impacted performance, highlighting the criticality of substrate balance for energy recovery.

Anaerobic Biological Treatment of High Concentration Wastewater
Granular sludge is the key to the efficient operation of the UASB reactor, which directly affects the treatment efficiency of the reactor. The ordinary flocculent sludge is lighter, and it is easy to be flushed out of the reactor under the action of the ...
