GATransformer: A Graph Attention Network-Based Transformer Model to Generate Explainable Attentions for Brain Tumor Detection

open access: yesAlgorithms
Brain tumors profoundly affect human health owing to their intricacy and the difficulties associated with early identification and treatment. Precise diagnosis is essential for effective intervention; nevertheless, the resemblance among tumor forms often

Point Cloud Registration With Object-Centric Alignment

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Point cloud registration is a core task in 3D perception, which aims to align two point clouds. Moreover, the registration of point clouds with low overlap represents a harder challenge, where previous methods tend to fail.

AI, insurance, discrimination and unfair differentiation. An overview and research agenda [PDF]

open access: yesLaw, Innovation and Technology 11 Mar 2025
Insurers underwrite risks: they calculate risks and decide on the insurance price. Insurers seem captivated by two trends enabled by Artificial Intelligence (AI). First, insurers could use AI for analysing more and new types of data to assess risks more precisely: data-intensive underwriting.

Relative expression software tool (REST©) for group-wise comparison and statistical analysis of relative expression results in real-time PCR

open access: yes, 2002
Real-time reverse transcription followed by polymerase chain reaction (RT–PCR) is the most suitable method for the detection and quantification of mRNA. It offers high sensitivity, good reproducibility and a wide quantification range.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

“Making it Real” Time

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2013
It has been 30 years since the first description of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)--corresponding, coincidentally, with the year of the first issue of BioTechniques. Ensuing decades have seen remarkable advances in this revolutionary technique.

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Real-Time scheduling: from hard to soft real-time systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Real-time systems are traditionally classified into hard real-time and soft real-time: in the first category we have safety critical real-time systems where missing a deadline can have catastrophic consequences, whereas in the second class we find systems or which we need to optimise the Quality of service provided to the user.
