Real-time Descartes: a real-time specification language

Proceedings of the Third Workshop on Future Trends of Distributed Computing Systems, 2003
Real-time Descartes is a formal language for specifying real-time software, which is an extension of the executable Descartes specification language. Many formal specification techniques have been proposed to conceptualize real-world semantics of the inherently complex nature of real-time systems.

Real-time results without real-time systems

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 2004
The data acquisition system at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL), Michigan State University, East Lansing, is based on commodity PC components running an unmodified Linux kernel. A commercial PCI-VME bus bridge connects the readout processors of this system to digitization hardware.

Learning Patterns of Activity Using Real-Time Tracking

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2000
Our goal is to develop a visual monitoring system that passively observes moving objects in a site and learns patterns of activity from those observations. For extended sites, the system will require multiple cameras. Thus, key elements of the system are

Real-time PCR

Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2007
Research into the field of DNA has increased dramatically in the years since DNA profiling was first identified. Since then, techniques have been developed to identify individuals from DNA samples equivalent to a single cell. Development of these techniques meant that the ability to accurately quantitate the DNA in such samples was required to evolve ...

Real-Time PCR

2004
The development of instruments that allow real-time monitoring of fluorescence within PCR reaction vessels is a significant advance in clinical bacteriology. The technology is very flexible, and many alternative instruments and fluorescent probe systems are currently available.

Fiscal Policy in Real Time [PDF]

open access: possibleSSRN Electronic Journal, 2007
AbstractIn this paper, I estimate the ex ante or intentional cyclical stance of fiscal policy in OECD countries. I use the fiscal plans reported at the time of budgeting, together with other information available to fiscal policy‐makers in real time. Indeed, fiscal plans might be significantly different from ex post outcomes because governments do not ...

The Real-Time Enterprise, the Real-Time Supply Chain

Information Systems Management, 2003
Abstract The idea of a real-time enterprise is gaining momentum very quickly. Although implementing a real-time selection is a complex and significant undertaking, the ROI is intuitively obvious and quantitatively verifiable. Managers must be provided an environment that allows them to make quicker, more informed business decisions to achieve their ...
