Real-Time Virtualization and Cloud Computing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In recent years, we have observed three major trends in the development of complex real-time embedded systems. First, to reduce cost and enhance flexibility, multiple systems are sharing common computing platforms via virtualization technology, instead ...

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

LEAN: Real-Time Analysis of Resistance Training Using Wearable Computing

open access: yesSensors, 2023
The use of fitness apps to track physical exercise has been proven to promote weight loss and increase physical activity. The most popular forms of exercise are cardiovascular training and resistance training. The overwhelming majority of cardio tracking

Adaptive Real Time Imaging Synthesis Telescopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The digital revolution is transforming astronomy from a data-starved to a data-submerged science. Instruments such as the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), and the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) will measure

Perspectives on Real-time Computation of Movement Coarticulation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 3rd International Symposium on Movement and Computing, 2016
We discuss the notion of movement coarticulation, which has been studied in several fields such as motor control, music performance and animation. In gesture recognition, movement coarticulation is generally viewed as a transition between "gestures" that can be problematic.

Unconventional mRNA processing and degradation pathways for the polycistronic yrzI (spyTA) mRNA in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The S1025 peptide is the major antidote to the YrzI toxin, which we renamed here as SpyT (Small Peptide YrzI Toxin) and SpyA (Small Peptide YrzI Antitoxin) (1). Degradation of the toxin–antitoxin spyTA mRNA, either by a translation‐dependent cleavage by the endoribonuclease Rae1 (2) or by direct attack by 3′‐exoribonucleases (3), also contributes to ...

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

A Functional Connectivity-Based Model With a Lightweight Attention Mechanism for Depression Recognition Using EEG Signals

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Numerous studies on depression recognition utilize attention mechanisms as tools for feature extraction. Applying the standard multi-head self-attention mechanism to the spatial domain of EEG data is a feasible approach for extracting spatial features ...
