Real-time traffic flow optimization
IBM Systems Journal, 1971Discussed are methods underlying the real-time monitoring and controlling system of a critical traffic link. Algorithms were developed for recognizing the length patterns of vehicles passing over detectors and using these for precisely computing traffic density in several sections of the Lincoln Tunnel.

Real-Time Guarantees for CAN Traffic
VTC Spring 2008 - IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2008Modern cars comprise a multitude of electronic features which are implemented in tens of communicating control units. To connect these in-car embedded systems, the CAN bus offers a sustainable performance, hence it is used as a widespread communication infrastructure, even for safety critical applications.

The Prodyn Real Time Traffic Algorithm
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1983PRODYN is an algorithm able to compute in real time the best signal settings with respect to the delay criterion for any flow demand in traffic networks. The hierarchical algorithm uses Forward Dynamic Programming (FDP) to compute controls at the lower level (intersections) and decomposition coordination technics at the upper level.

Supporting real-time traffic on Ethernet
Proceedings Real-Time Systems Symposium REAL-94, 1994Ethernet has been the dominant local area network architecture in the last decade, and we believe that it will continue to be so because of its cost-effectiveness and the availability of higher-bandwidth Ethernets. We propose and evaluate a software-based protocol called RETHER (Real-time ETHERnet) that provider real-time performance guarantees to ...

Novel scheduling for a mixture of real-time and non-real-time traffic
2012 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2012This paper presents a novel scheduling policy for wireless communications where users contain mixed real-time (RT) and non-real-time (nRT) traffic. The proposed policy introduces a novel tradeoff concept in scheduling, where a value of quality of service (QoS) satisfaction can be traded off with the achievable system throughput.

Real-time traffic measurement on MAGNET II
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1990Real-time traffic measurements on MAGNET II, an integrated network testbed based on asynchronous time sharing, are reported. The quality of service is evaluated by monitoring the buffer-occupancy distribution, the packet time-delay distribution, the packet loss, and the gap distribution of the consecutively lost packets.

Concurrent multipath communication for real-time traffic
Computer Communications, 2007The growing availability of multiple network interfaces on both mobile and fixed hosts makes concurrent multipath transfer (CMT) an appealing option to improve the performance of increasingly bandwidth-hungry multimedia applications. The Westwood Stream Control Transmission Protocol with Partial Reliability (W-PR-SCTP) is a partially reliable, SCTP ...

Real-time monitoring of traffic congestions
2017 IEEE International Conference on Electro Information Technology (EIT), 2017Alleviating the difficulty of congestion roads is quite a tough task; however such an alleviation can prevent many unwanted problems like employees late to work; deliveries do not arrive on time and many more. One of the main tactics to deal with the congested road difficulty is alerting the drivers about congested roads in real time, so the drivers ...

Real-Time Classification of Traffic Signs
Real-Time Imaging, 2000A challenging real-time imaging problem is classifying video traffic signs in background clutter under rotation, scale, and translation invariant conditions. Normalized Gabor Wavelet Transform features from multi-resolution filters were originally biologically-based; however, optimized features proved more effective.

Dynamics of traffic flow with real-time traffic information
Physical Review E, 2004We studied dynamics of traffic flow with real-time information provided. Provision of the real-time traffic information based on advancements in telecommunication technology is expected to facilitate the efficient utilization of available road capacity.
